Preventing Dementia: A User’s Manual for Your Brain

The Lancet, a prominent medical journal out of the United Kingdom, established a commission to review the research literature regarding the prevention of dementia. The international experts from the Lancet Commission published their first report in 2017. In 2020 they reviewed new literature and released another report. The 2020 report summarizes that 40% of dementia can be prevented or delayed by the modification of 12 risk factors. This presentation will review the 12 risk factors describing the percentage they contribute to preventable risk of dementia and when we should be focusing on each of these factors during our lifespan.
